Do you dream of a stress free vacation away from the big city hustle and bustle, spending your days on beautiful beaches and nights in glamorous restaurants and night clubs? How about rubbing elbows with Hollywood A-listers? Sound like an episode of “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous?” Life would be just so if you owned or rented a Long Island home in the Hamptons.

Located in Suffolk County, Long Island, the Hamptons has become associated with elegant and luxurious Hamptons beach homes with rich and famous residents; however, it has not always been so popular.

Beginning in 1648, Connecticut farmers and fishers moved from their respective homes to the Hamptons. Farming and fishing was the normal lifestyle until the beginning of the 20th century, when artists, writers and the rich discovered the serene beaches and quiet living not far from New York City. In short time, many flocked to the Hamptons and built luxurious Hamptons beach homes along the beautiful coasts.

The Hamptons is made up of different sections, including East Hampton, Westhampton, Hampton Bays, Southampton, and Bridgehampton. East Hampton is the wealthiest and most exclusive section of the Hamptons. It is the location of many celebrity homes including actress Renee Zellweger and actor Nathan Lane.

East Hampton is home to many cultural and natural attractions. The beaches provide residents and visitors with a plethora of sports and activities, including boating, water skiing, biking and volleyball. The impressive swells of Main Beach attract surfers from all across the country. The hip restaurants and stylish shopping is the center of culture and celebrity sightings. Independence Day boasts one of the most impressive fireworks display along the east coast. East Hamptons is home to many art communities and host countless film festivals every year.

Westhampton beach is filled with its share of Hamptons beach homes and cultural attractions. The beaches along the coast are accessible to residents and visitors alike. Residents have yearly access for a fixed fee, visitors can pay a fee per visit and guests are permitted if accompanied by a resident. Presently, Westhampton Beach is occupied by singles family homes, but new development of Hampton beach homes and condominiums is in effect.

For those looking to spend a short period of time in the Hamptons, rather than purchasing a home, can look to rent a Hamptons beach home. The website www.hampton-rentals.com lists properties available to rent anywhere from one weekend to the whole summer. Prices vary according to home and duration of stay.
